چکیده
A new modified Johnson-Cook model is developed to capture the non-linear thermal softening behaviour below austenite transformation temperature (723°C) in C45 ferritic-pearlitic steel, which not captured by original (JC) model. The physical mechanisms responsible for this are also studied. experimental quasi-static and high strain rate axisymmetric compression testing from 20°C 720°C implemented into 3D finite element drilling simulations. improvement over JC demonstrated comparison experimentally measured torque thrust force.

Finite Element Simulations of Ti6Al4V Titanium Alloy Machining to Assess Material Model Parameters of the Johnson-Cook Constitutive Equation
The machining of titanium alloys poses several inherent difficulties owing to their unique mechanical properties and cutting characteristics. Finite element (FE) simulations have reduced the burden of extensive experimental trials in understanding the deformation behavior and optimize the cutting process. The FE code relies on the qualitative nature of inputs such as material flow stress model,...
متن کاملHigh Velocity Perforation Simulations of Lightweight Target Plates Using a Modified Johnson-cook Model
Because of their superior ballistic and mechanical properties, lightweight materials like titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V and aluminum alloy AA5083-H116 have been frequently used for aerospace and military applications. Tests of ballistic limit velocity are limited by expensive nature of the experimental setup, and indeed, that can be resolved by adopting numerical simulations. Numerical study involvi...
متن کاملEfp Simulations with Johnson-cook Models
Because numerical simulations with classical Johnson-Cook formulation of explosively formed projectiles induce non representative projectiles, a modified Johnson-Cook model taking into account the thermally activated and viscous regimes as well as the notion of saturation stress in the 10 s regime has been developed. Using both models, numerical experimental comparisons of Taylor and explosivel...
متن کاملGenetic Algorithm-based Optimization Procedures to Find the Constants of Johnson-Cook Constitutive Equation
Johnson-Cook constitutive equation is one of the most famous constitutive equations that have ever been developed to model the hot deformation flow curves of different materials. This equation is a predefined model in the traditional finite element codes to describe the material behavior in applications such as simulating the manufacturing processes. In this work, two different genetic algorith...
متن کاملNon-Local Modelling of Strain Softening in Machining Simulations
Non-local damage model for strain softening in a machining simulation is presented in this paper. The coupled damage-plasticity model consists of a physically based dislocation density model and a damage model driven by plastic straining in combination with the stress state. The predicted chip serration is highly consistent with the measurement results.
